Festival poljičkog soparnika Dugi Rat

Soparnik / zeljanik is one of the symbols of the old Poljička Republic, on whose former premises we are here.

It is a simple dish, prepared from ingredients that were available to every household: flour, Swiss chard, capula, olive oil and onions. In the past, there was a fasting dish that was prepared on post office days, on Good Friday, Christmas Day or on the eve of All Saints’ Day. It was prepared for difficult people, to treat guests and friends, and today the people of Poljica offer it on almost all festive occasions. Our municipality not only organizes the Festival, but in 2019, it also erected the monument “Woman with soparnik in hand”, a bronze statue 175 cm high, which is located here at the beginning of the main beach, and is the work of Teo Baučić. Soparnik is a delicacy that tells the story of the history and culture of a people., which is why it was one of the first in Croatia to receive a mark of originality, protected by a designation of geographical origin by the EU, and as an intangible .cultural heritage under the protection of UNESCO
